17. Why do we seek knowledge?









- First instance of rubber being used to create surgical gloves created by Dr. Halsted in 1894
- He had falled in love with the head nurse of his surgical department, whom had very sestitive hands that got injured frequenty from the harsh chemicals used to disenfect.
- Because of this, he researched and commisioned a glove mouled after her hands made in rubber.
- Shows how the pursuit of knowledge can be motivated by our emotional connection with others.
- First artificial satellite to be launched.
- It was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit by the Soviet Union on 4 October 1957 as part of the Soviet space program.
- Period of extremely high tensions between USA and USSR, which motivated its research and development.
- the creation and development of this satellite was motivated by the desire to gain technological advantage over the USSR’s main rival, the USA, and consequently also to give the appearance to the world that the USSR was more powerful than the USA.
- Shows how the pursuit of knowledge can be motivated by political reasons and the desire for power over another party.
- First crochet project I ever made.
- It was a small bag to carry my new iPod.
- Despite all the errors with this bag, I continued pursuing knowledge on crochet because of my desire to create things which represented my identity and the things i liked.
